For the Lubbock, TX installment of “Open Mic Stories”, we heard from Michelle, who had a mindblowing day as she soundchecked with Kelly’s band, watched them perform, and then met Kelly! Check out her story and video below!

My name is Michelle. I'm from Amarillo, TX and I won the OpenMic contest for the Lubbock, TX show! I've been a fan of Kelly for quite some time and it was an honor and a blessing to experience her show in this way! When we got to the venue, Brian walked us down to the arena area and then we sat and listened to the band record their individual parts for the AMA as Kelly will be performing!

In no time, Kelly's tour mgr, Tim came up and told me it was time and walked me up to the stage. As we walked up, my nerves really started kicking in. He told me that Kelly wasn't feeling well so she was resting on the bus and wouldn't be there for the sounchcheck. That may have helped my nerves a little, but not much. We got to the stage and he introduced me to the band members, who were all COMPLETELY awesome.

Kelly's music director, Jason asked if I wanted to do a run through or just record and I said I'd like to do a run through first. We stopped about halfway through and it was time for the real thing! So we started again and it was on!

I cannot even say how amazing it felt to be up on that stage in an arena, singing with such an awesome bunch of musicians. The band sounded absolutely amazing and the light techs put on a great show as well and I was right there in the middle of it! It was overwhelming, definitely one of the most incredible experiences of my life!

After I was done, everyone clapped and shouted for me and told me I'd done great (and no one commented on the shake in my voice at one point or the off notes, lol). And it's been said before, but everyone involved was absolutely amazing! Kelly's back-up vocalists, Kate and Jill, even gave me a hug after I'd finished. Afterward, we sat and watched the rest of soundcheck. Kelly's band is really fabulous!

Later on, we met for the meet & greet and got escorted down to the waiting area. After a while, Kelly came in. It was so cool to watch her interact with everone in front of us. You could see that she met everyone at the opening of the curtain and gave them a big hug and an even bigger smile. So sweet!

We got to Kelly and they told her I was the open mic winner. We hugged and talked for a moment and I thanked her for the opportunity and told her how much fun it had been! We talked for a few more moments and then took our pics together. She was very sweet and down to earth and meeting her was wonderful!

We then went to our seats, which were great and enjoyed a fabulous show! Kelly was talkative, energetic and she sounded amazing live. Her voice is so powerful that I was almost brought to tears more than once. I loved every performance, especially “That I would be Good/Use Somebody” and “Because of You.” AMAZING!!

I have to say, again, that Kelly and everyone associated with her could not have been more welcoming and comforting. They all helped to calm my nerves and make this once in a lifetime experience one that I will NEVER forget!

Thank you so much, Kelly, Tim, Kate, Jill, Jason, Brian the rest of the fabulous band and everyone else at RCA for this experience. I cannot say how much it meant to me!
